Leather for all

Would you wear a leather dress?

The natural evolution of leather, of course. While Acrimony loves us some Jen Brill (yum), we would probably style it a bit different. Let's ditch the bow, throw on a bad ass wide brim hat, an armful of bling, and your boyfriend's Number (N)ine plaid flannel. Either way, the verdict is in. Leather dress we vote yes!

Tall and tan and young and lovely...

the girl from Ipanema goes walking,
and when she passes,
each one she passes goes, ahh.

Did you know that there really was a girl from Ipanema? Heloísa Eneida Menezes Paes Pinto (quite a mouthful, isn't it?), a 5'8" tall brunette, was the subject of this award-winning song. Though myth goes that she was the original inspiration for the lyrics, in actuality, they were only attributed to her to after the song was written. Still, the idea of composers Antonio Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes being completely blown away by her poise and beauty as she walked by on her way to the beach is enchanting, isn't it?

For more info, there's a Wiki article.

All this talk of beaches and Brazilian babes can be attributed to the particularly warm weather we've been experiencing recently. I think it's time to break out the dresses and shorts, don't you?

Mini Post

Since it's such a beautiful day, we decided to have a little outdoor camera fun featuring Mini Market. Out of everything in the store, Mini Market's one of my favorite labels, as it's extremely luxe and well-made.

I look pensive. Why? Because photo-taking makes me uneasy. This dress, however, makes me feel like Snow White, albeit Snow White with raggedy old Converses on.

Close-up.

I love this deeply-saturated Mini Market skirt (paired with a plaid IRO top). I don't even care that I'm getting it dirty by sitting on the curb.

Jumping shot. You can see the skirt in all its glory this way.

Filled with Mini Market love,

Creep Up on Me Mr Wang

One of the most over-hyped (arguably) brands out there is Alexander Wang. And for good reason. The man keeps turning out ingenious designs that make our heads spin. The sold out woven platforms and even the fringe bootie were gone in seconds. So now all we can look forward to is Fall. Let's not assume he doesn't have more tricks up his sleeve. You're looking at a white/black denim leather creeper BOOT. Seriously? Serious. Our it-girl Roxy loves her creepers, too. And so does Lulu. You don't have to be rock n roll to pull this off. But it helps.

Heathers for Brains

I've got Heathers on my mind. You know, starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, totally dark and hilarious and amazing. I was watching it last night and couldn't help noticing it how great Veronica looked throughout the movie. And since the 80's have been so inspiring recently for a lot of designers, here are some screenshots:

Do you like? Lots more screenshots can be obtained online, but just watch the movie! Winona's super-cute.

Cool girls that aren't Erin Wasson

Yeah, I get it. The effortless trend is still going strong. We all want to look like a model-off-duty. Ironically, looking like a model-off-duty usually requires you to look like a model. Because if you don't... put a bra on... cuz it's still cold in San Francisco and NOBODY wants to see the goods.

But if I could name one person who always gets it right, it's designer Limi Feu. Limi is the daughter of the legendary Yohji Yamamoto. Her real name is Limi Yamamoto. Edginess is built into her design, no studs, rips, or denim shorts required. Signature long black hair, no bangs, simple shirting, and functionality built into each garment. She is her clothes and her clothes are her. Incredibly sexy, but subtle. Why can't more girls dress like this?

And she's totally bad-ass.

We did our own tribute to the designer, wearing new-in-stock Tankus, and featuring Acrimony's resident "face" Roxxxy.

Why Hello There Mr Cool

If you're walking around Hayes Valley and want to pop in to remind us how cool you are on an everyday basis, please feel free. Mr. Cool over here reminds us of the relevance of monochromatic pieces from head to toe, and the idea of non color as a color. The first look, Cassette waxed cotton jacket, Endovanera henley, April 77 denim, AA scarf, Common Projects. Notice, no color, but looks oddly vibrant nonetheless. Then we fell in love with the monochrome grey outfit he tried on in the shop: YMC henley, Nom de Guerre selvedge denim, Common Projects. It's pretty easy guys, keep up.

M.O.D.

Models Off Duty, male version. Sadly, there's a shortage of photos, but from what I can tell, they do seem to favor the skinny pants.

Tyler Riggs - I think all guys should have a leather jacket

Luke Worrall - I like his suspenders and vest

Cole Mohr - casual, with rolled pant legs and a beanie

Cole Mohr - mash-up of blazer over mesh top over button up!

What do you think? Comparable to female models behind-the-scenes?

Look-a-like

Pertaining to a conversation I had the other day after perusing lookbook.nu and seeing this photo:

Me: Why do guys dress like Bob Dylan?

The reply: Guys just want to BE Bob Dylan.

I can see that.

The REAL Dylan

Lots of guys seem to strive for his look, the skinny pants, Ray-Ban-esque sunglasses, button-ups shirts, cigarette dangling close by, subversive nonchalance. Timeless!

Kai-Aakmann is better than Your-Assmann

Kai-Aakmaan, sister brand to our resident favorite, Tankus, pretty much melts our faces off with their Fall collection. Heavy on layers, layers and more layers. Watch the lines, the diagonals, the zips and pulls that put them on our list of "not to be missed" designers. Keep your panties on people, check out Tankus in the meantime. Sorry dudes, you'll just have to wait (*drool...).

Men in Uniform

So on the 4th season of Project Runway, Michael Kors is asked why he always wears the same thing. He responds, "I don't want to think about what I'm wearing." Hence his uniform:

Black shirt, black jacket, blue jeans

I can tell that you all want to emulate. All kidding aside, I like it when designers stick to certain outfits, maybe because all their brain juices gets used up designing clothes? They know what works for them and stick to it. Here are two timeless, classic "uniforms":

Yohji Yamamoto (with daughter Limi, also in her signature style)

And of course, Karl

What's your uniform?

Chun-li hurrr

Chun-Li hair is taking over (minus the white ribbon cups).

Have you ever been stumped about what to wear? Something as simple as changing up your hair can make a world of difference. Case in point: the Chun-Li buns. SO fob-tastically cute it'll have you yelling "Yatta!" at your next Cosplay convention. God, I'm kidding.

We tried our own version of the Chun-Li, slightly modified, on our resident friend of Acrimony, Roxanne aka Roxxy. She's also wearing the brand new Sophomore Spring 09 dress du jour. Pick one up at Acrimony today!

Over the Pond Favorites

My best friend just left for England a week ago, and with the exchange rates lower than ever, I thought it'd be a great time to ask her for a favor...

"Will you buy me clothes?! I'll pay you back."

I mean, there are a plethora of stores in the UK that offer really great clothes, but are practically inaccessible (hey, international shipping is expensive).

Luckily, she IS my best friend, of course said yes, so now I get to peruse the websites of some of my favorite British shops.

What I like:

From Topshop, part of the newest Kate Moss collection, clocking in at the quite reasonable price of £50, or roughly $75*.

Again, from the newest Kate Moss collection, a party dress that's both decadent and sexy (especially on Kate—maybe that's why I love it so). £250, or roughly $375*.

From AllSaints, I love the toughness of these boots. And the fringe is awesome. At £160, it's $240*. A bargain?

Also from AllSaints, this trench is a twist on the conventional. I think it'd look great over just about anything, especially those boots and some skinny jeans. £250, or about $375*.

A Miss Selfridge find, this acid wash playsuit is dangerous. I think girls should stock up on onesies like these for the summer. £45, or $67.50*.

*I'm using $1.50 to £1 as an approximate conversion rate

Sweet Like Candy

There are times that I'm unabashedly girly. Like when I refuse to sit on grass because I don't want to get stains on my butt, or when I find myself watching a chick flick and tearing up during the cheesiest moments.

So doesn't it make sense that I would love jewelry by Candace Ang? Below are some necklaces that aren't out in stores yet (from her blog) and I really really like them (fine, it's love). She mixes chains with cloth and studs in the most alluring fashion, so it's girly, but not THAT girly.

I really like this necklace, decked out in Swarovski crystals and nude chiffon ruffles. And here's my disclaimer: when it comes to personal style, I tone down the feminine. So I'd wear this with a plain tank vest maybe. Because simplicity is key.

Native Tongue / Native Son

Masculine. Utilitarian. Structured. The way most men remember fashion before the start of men in capes and high heel boots. Native Son, set to launch for Fall 09, provides a refreshing reminder to the tailored looks of yesteryear. Single piece backs, release box pleats, partial invisible plackets, double welt flap pockets, the fineness of tailoring at its best. With no frills, just design elements so subtle and so perfect, we can't wait to see how Kyle Fitzgibbons brings evolution to the suited man.

Sophomore is in!

Sophomore shoulder cut-out dress w/ belt, Sophomore cut-out dress

Hey girls!

Ch-ch-ch-check it. We just got in - Sophomore Spring 2009 collection - and what better way to welcome new merchandise into the store than to have our resident intern, Linda play model to a few of our favorite pieces.

This season, Sophomore played up the ever-so-hot-right-now trend of cut-outs. And of course, their signature zip skirt is BACK, this time with DOUBLE ZIPS. We have the shoulder cut-out in aqua, and the cut-out dress in gray. We have the zip skirt in sherbert peach, gray, and black. And let's not forget ALL THE TANKS. Mmm... delicious.

Call to order.

The Not-So-Ordinary Sensible Black Pumps

I think everyone's pretty much familiar with Jak and Jil by now. If not, check out the site-it's chock full of great shots of shoes.

So imagine walking down the street, when you spy someone wearing these very sensible pumps:

Instead of hurrying past, you stop, and take some time to notice the details. And then you realize that these aren't any ordinary pair of pumps. They're black and sleek, and the heels are masterful, at once architectural and minimalistic, but also kind of sexy.

By Calvin Klein, they were worn by Dree Hemingway (that's right-THE Ernest Hemingway's great-granddaughter) during New York Fashion Week. And I love them and I want them and I have no idea where I can find them, because when you search 'Calvin Klein' online, you have to comb through piles of the "designer" crap that your parents love to buy to give to relatives. Well, I'm actually referring to myself.

Rainy Day Shopping

As someone who loves rain, my least favorite thing about Californian weather is, well, the lack of it. We've been going through a major dry spell recently and I've long given up on the idea of opening my blinds in the morning to overcast weather.

But, we are quickly approaching April, which is traditionally quite a rainy month, no? So in the spirit of spring, I'd like to buy some rain gear. Who knows, maybe they'll come in handy this year.

First up, an umbrella. This Marimekko print is pretty sweet, and the price is reasonable.

Secondly, rainboots. Coming from Scandinavian designer Ilse Jacobsen, you can be sure these lace-up boots are hardy as well as stylish.

Third, an anorak. I want something lightweight and yet rainproof, like this H Chalayan jacket. I like the symmetrical zippers on the back.

Now go and enjoy the rain that is probably imminent wherever you are unless it's California.

The little touches

I know we're not all at liberty to wear whatever we want whenever we want. Guys, I know that lots of you spend half (or way more) of your waking life at work, constricted by button-down shirts, the occasional tie, shiny leather shoes. So why not inject a little bit of personal style into your office wardrobe in the most subtle way?

What I'm trying to say is that I'm a huge fan of these tie tacks and cufflinks by Giles & Bro. They're pretty awesome, in a way that won't get you singled out by stiff bosses when they're making their rounds. Personally, I'd be intrigued if I noticed these kinds of touches on my... accountant (I totally drew that out of thin air, by the way).

An Introduction - Intern Linda

Hiii!

My name is Linda, and you'll be seeing much more of me on this blog. Rather than provide a formal introduction, I'll regale you with descriptions of some of cute things I really like in the store right now.

I just came back from helping put together a collapsed mannequin in the front; she (it? she?) was wearing this cropped tank. I'm not usually a fan of the color, but this particular shade is gorgeous, kind of a dusty pink. And after seeing it repeatedly at Dries Van Noten, I really want to incorporate it into my wardrobe, preferably in silk. I love how you'd never guess that this top had ruffles on the back.

So I don't think Sophomore needs to be hyped about anymore than it already has, but I really like this dress! Spring's just around the corner, and I'm looking forward to the dress shopping that ensues when the weather consistently hits the mid-60's. I'd forego the girly frocks and pick something just like this.

Finally, since I've highlighted a top and a dress, I wanted to write about these shorts. What could be more lush and sophisticated, right? The royal blue is perfect for nights out (paired with heels and some awesome jewelry), but it would be lovely pared down with a really great tank.

Alright, that's it for now. I'll be writing more... later. Bye guys!

xxLinda

Undercover crush

Undercover man via Diane Pernet

Diane Pernet

It's no secret that I have a crush on Undercover designer Jun Takahashi. His clothes can easily inspire a boy or a girl. Leopard print shorts anyone?

I won't talk about the design too much, it speaks for itself. I've never been very good at describing fashion. All I know is when I see Undercover - I want to eat it up. And that's all that really matters. Nom nom nom.

Odyn Vovk Mysteria

Imagine falling asleep to ambient music and waking up in the middle of a dream with this dude staring at you. Mixed feelings...

I love you: you are wearing an amazing leather coat, your boots look worn/abused/loved/perfect, you understand layers and proportions, you look SO good.

I hate you: you are wearing a panty hose mask and likely planning to kill me by the roadside.

Ultimate decision: love.

Machine de Terre

We've all seen the much hyped All for the Mountain necklaces worn by Erin Wasson. Jewelry inspired by Alexandro Jodorowsky's "The Holy Mountain" is all the rage.

It's like dreaming on acid. A trip-tastic experience featuring a Christlike figure who wanders through bizarre scenarios filled with religious and sacrilegious imagery. And since Jesus hair is also all the rage, why not indulge in the trend.

Our pick is Aesa's 2009 collection "Machine de Terre." Check it out.

March Forward

To kick things off this month, we're crazy about Uniqlo's Spring "March" campaign, featuring 98 plaid shirts each equipped with a unique Flannel ID number. Individuality is clearly the name of the game. The site also features a customizable soundtrack courtesy of Cornelius.

And there's nothing more amusing than watching little people walk across your computer screen. They're "'March'ing." Haha, get it?

If you can't make your way to a Uniqlo store in the US, not to worry. Acrimony's got our own version of the plaid flannel. Click here.

The Holy Mountain

leonofnewyork

This jacket will make you see God, or at least, different variations of Jesus. The Fall 2003 "Luster" Napolean coat by Dior Homme is the Holy Grail of coats. Currently, a mere 5k via Ebay.

What is a Holy Grail item? It's usually defined as a clothing or accessory that is nearly impossible or extremely difficult to obtain. But once you do, it's major.

Get Busy Child

We all just couldn't walk out the house with solid-colored, symmetrically designed, ordinary shirts. Thanks to Bill Cosby, Roseanne (Barr) and Jackie, they stepped outside the box and flaunted busy printed sweaters, which dubbed the (ugly) Christmas sweater tradition. These sweaters are not just for the holidays anymore, oh no! They're carrying over throughout the year and hitting runways at shows like Ann-Sofie Back and Peter Jensen. We actually have a soft-spot for these festive knits--perfect for jazzing up a basic pair of jeans or leggings on the weekend.

Raining Cats and Dogs

A cat weather lore:
A sneezing cat means rain is on the way, and three sneezes in a row portends a cold for the cat's owner! A cat running wildly about, darting here and there and clawing everything in sight means wind or a storm is on the way; when the cat quietens down, the storm will soon blow itself out. Cats washing over their ears have long been held to foretell rain; the old rhyme goes 'When Kitty washes behind her ears, we'll soon be tasting heaven's tears.'

As the lore and photo suggests, the storm shall soon blow over. Rain rain go away, come again another day.

MiniMarket is paving their way in the new year with their diffusion line Mini for Many and has also developed their accessory line consisting of bags, shoes, scarves, hats, belts, scarves, and bowties! We love all things Radiohead and Thom Yorke, soloist. This 2009 Grammy poster is to die for. Words of songs influential to his life and career are inscribed, outlining his portrait. Such influences of Yorke's are from experimental and challenging artists such as Scott Walker ("Psoriatic"), the Liars ("The Wrong Coat for You Mt. Heart Attack"), and also a relatively unknown electronic act Modeselektor, whose "Kill Bill Vol. 4" is labeled on the forehead of the Radiohead singer, that have not been recognized by the Grammy's. Paris' Erotic Launch

Leave it to YSL to launch Paris fashion week with an erotic video. Ironically enough, we just watched "The Dreamers," a totally bizarro flick about an American student who gets caught up in a lovers dilemma with a woman AND her twin brother. And here, we see Michael Pitt himself, the star of The Dreamers, starring in this short erotic film. It's no more than his face, with the sexiest French voice-over (everything in French is sexy...). She could be reciting a pumpkin bread recipe, for all we know, so thank goodness for the subtitles. Some people have already criticized it as being absurd, but we think it amazing. Just the notion of creating poetic, one-sided dialogue, choosing the right face, the right tone of voice, the right medium, the right moment in time...is art.

Images from Thom Browne's first showing of Fall at Pitti Uomo. He's got to be one of the most ironic designers out there. He puts on a show with 20 plus models, showcasing only 2 outfits, suiting and knits. With slicked hair, glasses, and this forced masculinity about them, it seems very Dick Tracy/1930s. Hussein Chalayan exhibit

The London Design Museum is blessing us with an exhibit dedicated to, unarguably, one of the most genius designers of our time. Hussein Chalayan's memorable work started back in 1993 when he displayed dresses that he pulled out of the dirt in his backyard. What?
The exhibit, beginning January 22nd, is said to include wearable wooden tables, the LED Swarovski crystal light dress, as well as ‘Before Minus Now’—a dress made from aircraft construction materials that changes shape by remote control. Best known and loved for his ingenuity and constant innovation in shape and fabrics, we are curious to see how anyone could ever put together an exhibit that honors him properly.

Unibrow, Unicycle, Unicorn, UNISEX

There is a recurring theme.
Unibrow, Frida Kahlo = Amazing.
Unicycle, the ultimate fixed gear. Show me your unicycle, I dare you.
Unicorn, suspect of fantasy, the unattainable.
Unisex, far beyond borrowing your dad's blazer. The newest wave in directional fashion.

While some designers have built intentional unisex collections, stylephiles are busy making strong statements with pieces that can be worn by any gender. Ann Demeulemeester, one of our many addictions, compiles a collection so directional that every piece creates it's own path to heaven. Fashion heaven, that is. *gulp.

Damir Doma, another on our list of covetables, focuses on menswear, but could easily earn the right as favorite item in any woman's closet.

While everyone thought the drop crotch would come and go like last year's boyfriend, we always knew it'd be around for everyone to enjoy just a little longer. Prada did a chino drop crotch in 07, Henrik Vibskov with the infamous drop crotch shorts in 08, and the harem pant in 09, for everyone to take a stab at. It's old news, really, but new news for those that have yet to try it out. Easily mistaken for poop in your pants, please don't attempt unless you have skinny legs. YOW!

MAKR Your Calendars for Acrimony's First Pop-Up Shop

Acrimony hosting a pop-up shop? Well yes!

MAKR will be showcasing a collection of new and previously unreleased items at Acrimony’s 8x8 designer exclusive pop-up shop. A preferred selection of carry goods including totes & duffel bags and wallets & cardholders will be available at Acrimony from November 28th through the 2008 holiday season.

Makr is a small carry goods company founded and run by designer Jason Gregory. The brand’s focus is on simple, elegant items to carry your life in. All Makr products blend the tradition of handcrafted goods with the contemporary elements of city life. Leather is laser etched, yet hand sewn. Soft deerskin is paired with industrial wovens. Materials are carefully selected and every item is designed, patterned and cut in house. Pieces are produced in small quantities by an even smaller group of people, and all assembly is done by family-owned companies within the U.S.

Makr is an appreciation of the simple, the durable and the timelessness of thoughtful design; a vision of the useful as artful, and the opportunity to apply that principle to the everyday. The idea is to continue rethinking and creating practical objects that provide relief from the typical and disposable.

Cloak of Visibility-Winter's Coolest Capes

What do witches, vampires, detectives and this year's fashionista have in common? They all have keen senses and wear cloaks and capes that are taking this winter's fashion scene by storm. Unlike the world of fantasy where cloaks were worn for invisibility, you'll want to be seen in these drapes! Cloaks are a perfect alternative to that drab North Face puff coat in your closet. You can be bundled, belted, or hooded and choose from a full to mini length cloak with bold colors and textiles. Cloaks make for a beautiful and alluring silhouette. How would you like to disappear in the night with style? Upgrade your coat to a cool cloak!

The Ladies of MiniMarket

While Fall is still in full swing, and we haven't even begun our holiday shopping, let's keep motivated by what's to come for next season. Afterall, we don't want to waste our energy on mindless articles that won't be valid next season. It's quite easy to entrust your closet (and money) with the ladies pictured here. Sisters Sofie, Pernilla and Jennifer Elvestadt have it under control.

The inspiration for SS09 derives from dark versions of Disney characters torn apart and pieced together with each other. The color scale includes midnight blue with bright red, bright green and electric blue. No more wimpy colors! It's all about cottons and silks, including an everlasting silk that won't disintegrate over time. So you can pass it to your baby's baby's baby's. The patterns are dominated by blurry dots and multi colored stripes. The shapes are square, boxy, and poofed. Lovely.

We posted pics before, but here they are again for your absolute indulgence.

iPod into Jewelry

Who said the iPod couldn't get better? Designer Gopinath Prasana has envisioned the future of everyone's favorite music accessory, and designed it into a bracelet. Made of aluminum, and equipped with music controls, a track pad, and most importantly, an air inflated fit system to ensure the thing doesn't slip off your wrist. C'mon! We think this thing is a bust, UNLESS, they do a collabo with Cartier and have it laced in pave diamonds. Aluminum? No way, how about white gold. And to top it off, make matching earrings that double as the wireless ear bud. This is genius.

Comme des Garcons for the masses

While almost every high-street, designer collaboration of late has been quite the disappointment, we are finally excited to see the launch of one of the most unexpected ones yet. Rei Kawakubo, best know for her directional and very aggressive collections, is a design genius. Whether or not the range will be uncompromised by the diffusion prices, and the overly commercial audience, is yet to be seen. We can't imagine the average H&M shopper fully appreciating Kawakubo's 40 years of experience. However, it's a push in the right direction. The level of sophistication in design is unparalleled, and any exposure to those that haven't had the pleasure of enjoying it will finally have the chance. It's already available in Tokyo, but tomorrow, it's for us in the states to judge.

Viceland Favorites

We usually don't steal from other websites so blatantly, but this post was just too funny. NOT sharing it would be a disgrace. If you don't already follow Vice's Do's & Don'ts, you are seriously under read. This is one of our MANY favorites.

Caption: He's got an orange tan, creative hair, ambitious eyebrows, striving sideburns and that stupid fucking after work super casual uniform that every meathead liar from Jersey to Silverlake tries to slip by us.

WODE by BOUDICCA

Perhaps one of the most "interesting" scents to hit the market in more recent history is WODE by BOUDICCA. Garnishing its name from Queen Boudicca who led a tribal uprising against the occupation of the Roman Empire, the Queen was most imfamous for the blue war paint her army was disguised in.
The modern day homage to the Queen comes in the form of WODE. When sprayed, a vibrant cobalt mist is released on the skin and clothing. In seconds, WODE fades completely and only leaves the scent behind.
And apparently, part of the ad campaign includes using a certain "war paint" on city property. Brilliant. Have perfume that stains your clothes and also graffiti on the side of your house to remind you of it.

Worship Worthy is so worship worthy

The New York based fashion/culture/arts blog WORSHIP WORTHY is on our most read list. We love what these ladies stand for and also their eccentric perspective on all things unique. Although the editorial is very New York centric, so are most good things about fashion. Thus, a branch off into their own signature line is appropriate. For Holiday, the Worship Worthy ladies are making their digs available to you. Check out just a bit of what's to come...

Recycle....everything

We are green. We love being green. And we love hearing about other people finding NEW ways to be green. Recycling cans, paper, and cooking oil is old news. The folks over at Coffin Couches have decided to recycle coffins! I assume no dead body included (unless you buy the Dodgers couch which comes with one of many dead Dodgers fans).

WOWch!

What do fans of Flight of the Conchords, sleazy truck drivers and kids from the Mission have in common? They all have mustaches (even the women) and they also wear WOWCH.

WOWCH is a Brooklyn based design company specializing in conceptual t-shirts since 2003. Their graphics put a sardonic spin on sweet furry things and twist nature into cartoonish nightmares. With only 4 seasons under their belts and little support from the mainstream press, they've gained quite a large underground following all around the world.

When not working on their line, the two artists, Max Cattaneo and Matt Shankman, have had the pleasure of designing exclusive graphics for cool rock bands such as The Rapture, Beck, Tenacious D, Outhud, Vhs or Beta, and DFA Records to name a few. And on top of all that, their frequent New York City parties have become an institution amongst the beautiful, the boisterous, and the buffoons.

Available at Acrimony soon!

Nom de Guerre Sp09

The art collective produced by Holly, Wil Devon and Isa pushes through its street roots to bring a truly tailored collection of jackets, trousers and clean cut shirts. Mostly monochromatic looks, keeping with the theme of simplicity and longevity in style. Detailed with some army and safari inspirations, the collection stands for everyday classic separates. We'd like to see some prints and other dramatic embellishments, but I guess we'll leave that to someone else...

Deadly Ponies

So you want to hear about New Zealand Fashion Week, eh? Well NZ is a great place to visit, see some sights, meet some really great people...but the fashion is pretty sloooooooow. And just when we thought we may leave empty handed, we spotted one accessories line to die for.

Deadly Ponies, from the collective brains of Liam Bowden and Katie Smith, connect well sculpted bags with pebbled leathers and exposed zippers to create wearable yet unforgettable pieces. Alongside bone and skeleton pendants, snake detailed rings, and of course dead pony legs, the jewelry pieces are also not to be overlooked...

The show included handbags set up in a science lab, hanging from old lab racks or sitting atop iodine jars. The jewelry came out, catwalk style, carried by zombie looking models, on plates with scattered body parts. Genius!
